Harrison Road Closure due to CN Railroad Work
  • The shutdown of Harrison Road at the railroad tracks, located just south of Trowbridge Road, will begin on May 16
  • Those heading north on Harrison Road will have to be rerouted to Mt. Hope Road or Service Road and take Farm Lane to Trowbridge Road to avoid the closure
Q: Will this closure affect the tracks at Bogue Street?
A: Not that I’m aware of.

Harrison Road Reconstruction (City of East Lansing)
  • Reconstruction will take place between Shaw Lane and Trowbridge Road
  • Scheduled to begin on June 13 last until August 20
    • The start date was held off because Red Cedar School is still in session
  • Harrison Road will totally be closed with detour from Shaw Lane to Red Cedar Road and back to Trowbridge Road
  • The third phase of Harrison Road Reconstruction will take place next year, occurring between Harrison and Mt. Hope Road
Q: Any concerns about the traffic for the U2 concert?
A: The contractor is aware that the situation will have to be adjusted and the crews will have to vacate for the weekend, but the detour will remain in place.

Secchia Center Rooftop Completed
  • The eighth floor was originally planned as just a mechanical space but because of additional funding it was able to be built out as a space for faculty
    • Students are allowed in the space once a week, but security staff must be present for safety and security reasons. Security cameras are also in place.
  • An outdoor garden is located on the roof top, along with a solarium and indoor space that can be rented by the public
    • Bamboo trees have been planted in planters in the outdoor garden because they are the only type to tree that can withstand the wind
  • The solarium has a glass curtain wall that allows great views of downtown Grand Rapids
    • The skylights are all photovoltaic lenses and collect energy from the sun; this is a big contribution to the building’s gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification
    • Interior trellis wall vines continue to grow
Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum
  • Structural steel on the building is going up with significant progress
    • Second floor concrete has been poured on the deck
  • The building is really starting to take shape
  • A lot of underground utility work is happening to accommodate the reopening of East Circle Drive on Aug. 19
    • Detour is currently still in place
  • 3D modeling was used to design the placement of mechanical elements to avoid conflicts between equipment in a small space
Plant Science Expansion
  • The all of the exterior brick on the building is ceramic glazed,
    • Five different types of brick were brought in from California
    • Brick has been installed on the west side of the building and will continue on the east and north side
  • The green roof is located on the west side of the building
  • There are not interior columns, so occupants will have an obstructed view through the curtain wall
  • Next week, the exterior glass will be water tested to make sure the building is watertight
  • Mechanical elements have be placed on roof
  • Lane closure on Wilson Road will continue through the end of the year
Cyclotron Office Addition – Phase 2
  • West side of building will consist of  brick and glass
  • Recycling bins on site for reusable materials
  • Electrical and mechanical elements have been installed
Cyclotron High Bay Addition

Q: Why is the project being picketed?
A: I didn’t know they were there; I will have to check on that.

  • The coffee shop will be on the first floor, facing the People’s Park, along with a meeting area
  • Red Cedar Road is currently closed
    • Current detour directs motorists to take Shaw Lane to Chestnut Road
    • Pedestrian detour is routed to the east of the building
