Pedestrian Detours

Editor's note: Updates to these pedestrian detour routes are made frequently. While we do our best to provide the most current information here, please keep in mind that construction sites are dynamic and pedestrian detours may change quickly without advance notice. If you have any questions, or would like to inform us of a detour change, please e-mail communications@ipf.msu.edu or call 517-432-3624. Last updated June 5.

Morrill Hall

There is now a temporary sidewalk in place around the front of Morrill Hall, starting from the Grand River Parking Ramp exit on East Circle Drive to the sidewalk between Morrill and Human Ecology on West Circle Drive, on the north side of the road. There are detour signs in place.

West Circle Steam Loop

The sidewalks on both sides of West Circle Drive from IM Sports Circle to the MSU Museum are currently obstructed by construction.

For access to IM Sports Circle, approach from behind via the Kalamazoo Street bridge.

For access to the Music Building, follow the Kalamazoo Street bridge detour (see below) up to West Circle Drive. When you reach the crosswalk between Landon and Yakeley, cross to Adams Field and take the lefthand sidewalk down to the Music Building. This area is marked with signs.

For access to the Library and the Museum, continue down the sidewalk to the MSU Union and take a right. The sidewalks in that area will lead down to the Library and the Museum as usual.

Beal Street

The sidewalk on the north side (westbound) of Beal Street is now open. Impacts to Beal Street are due to Michigan Department of Transportation work on Michigan Avenue. The vehicle impacts will last throughout the summer.

Kalamazoo Street Bridge

The sidewalk on the northbound (east) side of Kalamazoo Street is open for pedestrian traffic until the end of the bridge. Pedestrians are then being rerouted across Kalamazoo Street to the southbound (west) side to a temporary sidewalk. This will take you up to the intersection of West Circle Drive and Beal Street. You must cross the street to West Circle at that point, and can either go left and follow the Beal Street sidewalk or continue on the sidewalk that leads around West Circle. The paths are marked, but caution is required to navigate around the construction.

Kalamazoo Street near Breslin Center

The sidewalk on the north side of Kalamazoo Street from Lot 67 (by Jenison Field House) to the intersection at Birch Road is closed. The south side of the sidewalk is open; cross Kalamazoo at Jenison Field House and follow the sidewalk west up Kalamazoo. Past Birch Street, you may recross to the north side of the sidewalk if you need to. There are signs posted in the area.

Shaw Lane and Bogue Street Intersection

There is currently work being done in front of Owen Hall and on the Shaw Lane/Bogue Street traffic circle. When traveling west on the sidewalk in front of Owen Hall, you will need to cross at the designated pedestrian crossing on Shaw Lane in front of Owen until you reach the crossing on Bogue Street, then you can cross heading north to access the north side of Shaw Lane.

When walking to the east side of the traffic circle from the area around the Shaw Parking Ramp on the Shaw Hall side, cross to the north side of the road at the designated crosswalk and follow the sidewalk between Shaw Hall and the Business College, which will take you to Bogue Street. You can then cross Bogue and walk south to Owen Hall, at which point you can take the sidewalks to McDonel Hall or the Wharton Center. This area is marked with signs but caution is required to navigate around the construction.
