Administration Building Asbestos Abatement

Completed: March 2012

Description: The Hannah Administration building is located on West Circle Drive, adjacent to Olds Hall, the Computer Center, and the Red Cedar River in the North Academic District. This project included abatement and replacement of the insulation along the ground floor perimeter and the floor tile throughout the ground floor; complete demolition and replacement of the metal pan ceilings and lay-in light fixtures; and new paint and flooring throughout the ground floor.

Impacts to building operations and building occupants:

  • Administrative Information Services (AIS) staff relocated to leased space at the Hannah Tech Center, on Hagadorn Road, during construction.
  • The computer hardware systems located in the space will remain and be protected during the project so that service will be uninterrupted.
  • The west entrance of the building on the ground floor remained open with access to the elevators, but building occupants and visitors wer encouraged to use the main entrance on the north side of the building due to high construction traffic on the ground floor.
  • Loading dock access remained available, but limited as recycling and waste containers were set up on the north end of the dock.
  • Parking impacts in the lot west of the building were minimal, with a couple metered spots closed for materials.
  • ID card operations moved to Room 60 and 64 in the Administration Building during this project.
  • Mail service remained unchanged.

Timeline: Construction began in May 2010 and was substantially complete by April 2011.

  • Abatement will occur between May and September 2010.
  • Rebuilding of the space will occur between May and December 2011.
  • AIS personnel will relocate back to the space by April 2011.

Work hours:

  • Abatement personnel will work 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays
  • Reconstruction personnel will work 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays
