Spartan Village - Water Distribution and Demolition

Completed: November 2009

Spartan Village Water Distribution and Demolition

Description: The Housing and Food Services 10-Year Strategic Plan calls for the demolition of buildings 1401-1404, 1410-1414, 1420-1426, 1512-20, and 1526-1534. These apartments have exceeded their life expectancy and it is no longer cost effective to maintain them. In addition, a new water main will be installed to raise fire flow capacity to the Spartan Village Complex. This project includes razing 34 buildings, site restoration, minor road and sidewalk repair, and the installation of a new water main to the Spartan Village Complex. The 34 buildings contain 380 apartments. The Spartan Village Laundry (1521) and Grounds Substation (1522) will remain.

Pedestrian, bicyclist, motorist impacts: Pedestrians will be detoured around the construction site. No road closures will be required during this project.

Timeline: Construction began in late May 2008 (Water Main and New Recycling Area) with Building Demolition starting on July 7, 2008. This project was substantially completed on November 13, 2008, with final completion on June 26, 2009.
