Description: This project is located on the north side of Wilson Road, between Farm Lane and Conrad Hall, in the Central Academic and Residential Districts. It involves the replacement of severely deteriorated steam and condensate return pipe supports and pipe realignment, repair/replacement of steam and condensate return anchors, installation of pipe guides and miscellaneous concrete restoration.
The project is necessary because several pipe supports have severely deteriorated and failed, causing the steam and condensate return pipe joints to sag and misalign. This can cause the expansion to bind, potentially causing steam service interruption and safety problems. Additionally, several anchors have deteriorated and require replacement and/or repair.
Pedestrian, bicyclist, motorist impacts: There were no minor impacts to pedestrian movement through Aug. 14 on the sidewalk on the north side of Wilson Road, between Farm Lane and Conrad Hall.
Timeline: Construction began in December 2008, and was substantially complete by July 2009, with final completion in August 2010.
